This may save GM from being completely egg-faced. If its the same supplier, you can bet your ass they'll do everything possible to pass the buck.

I know, and you guys know that its GM or Chryslers responsibility to check the parts, but John Q Public just might go along with it.

Sounds like this is not at all comparable to the GM situation:

NHTSA opened a "recall query" to determine if Chrysler should widen a previous recall

There was already a recall, none of the coverup nonsense, just investigating whether more cars should be added to the previous recall.

Your phrasing is making me think of Colin Mochrie on Whose Line declaring himself the "Lightning rod of hate". Not that that's a bad thing.

true, but the issue is identical 0- knocking motion can dislodge the key and airbag may not deploy - i find it highly unlikely that 2 diff mfers have almost a identical issue on cars that aren't at all the same. the fact there was a recall may just mean that not enough cars were initially recalled - so no coverup but perhaps not as comprehensive of a recall as it could have been.

This may save GM from being completely egg-faced.

I think they're past the point of egg-faced, nothing's saving the perception of this debacle.

I'm not really sure to be honest. Its such a world market now, the parts could have come from anywhere. For both manufacturers.

remember when Aston did a ginormous recall due to faulty chinese plastic? this could end up like that.

I actually don't remember that specifically. I don't follow the supercar brands real closely, but I'll read up on that. May very well be that way.

Aston had to recall all the vantages due to there being fauly plastic - aka fake plastic on the drive pedal supports - the pedal supports were made by a chinese subcontractor and there was a big stink about it and a loss for Aston.

Jeez. But yeah, that's exactly the same stuff I meant.
